What you need to know
TWP - FAQ
Does Trojans Pop Warner have cheerleading?
Yes! Click here to learn more.
Who provides the equipment? What will I need to buy?
All players will need to have a helmet, shoulder pads, football pants, a practice jersey, and a mouth guard. Rather than shopping around town for these items, we strongly recommend attending a Trojans Pop Warner Equipment Day. Kids will be properly fitted for helmets and shoulder pads (extremely important for player safety), and Trojans Pop Warner families will get better pricing than they could find at area retailers. We will email all registered families about the dates.
What is the average cost to participate in Pop Warner?
We estimate that you can expect to spend about $400-$500, including all gear and registration fees for a first time player.
What is your refund policy?
Full refund before the season starts. No refunds after that, except for extenuating circumstances that are voted on by the board.
Can my child play, even though they won’t attend Anderson?
Can my kid play up?
Kids are put into the appropriate grouping based on age and weight regardless of level of talent, for safety reasons. Please visit that area of our website for details.
Can girls play football in your league?
What is required to practice/play?
Complete physical, equipment (see above), report card showing passing grades and advancement to the next grade level, birth certificate, and proof of appropriate vaccinations. Team moms will insure all the appropriate paperwork has been received prior to the start of the season.
Are there any academic requirements?
Passing Grades. There is also the opportunity to be recommended for the Scholar award! Details will be provided for that during the season. This is a very high honor.
Are there tryouts?
Will I be required to take part in any fundraisers?
Likely not, as we have great community support at this time, but it is possible in the future. We do have Family and Business Sponsorships if you'd like to support the program. Additionally, a small percentage of the proceeds from some of our spirit wear sales is used to support the program.
When does practice begin?
Practices begin as early as August 1 and Trojan Pop Warner requires that players attend ALL practices in August. It is proven that this will ensure each player's safety and development in the succeeding weeks. Pop Warner mandates a given number of hours for conditioning and practice before players can put on their pads or participate in a game/scrimmage.
You will practice four times each week (week is defined as Monday - Sunday) max. 2.5 hrs at each day (break time does not count against these hours) - these are Pop Warner rules. It is difficult for players missing any of these practices to "catch up" to the rest of the team in terms of development and understanding. It also places an unnecessary burden on the coaching volunteers and takes away training and development time from the players that did attend.
For safety and development reasons, it is expected and required that each player attend ALL practices unless they are ill or have a required school event. After Labor Day, actual weekly practice time will drop from 10 hours per week to 6 hours per week max. (Week is defined as Mon - Sun), and the max. drops to 2 hrs practice each day (break time does not count against each practice) - Pop Warner rules.
Where possible we recommend scheduling camps and trips for June and July so as not to conflict with the start of Pop Warner practices. However, we understand that many families have August commitments. Kids will have the chance to make up lost time in August and still enjoy a great season.
When does the regular season begin?
Regular season games are played on Saturdays with the season typically beginning the first weekend in September, Labor Day weekend, and running through the end of October. Playoffs for Junior Pee Wee and Pee Wee will begin the following week for those teams that qualify and can potentially run through the first week in December (National Championships in Orlando, FL).
When and where are games?
Games usually take place on Saturdays. When the season begins, we will play our home games at Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School, and away games on fields throughout central Texas. Game times and locations are assigned by the Hill Country Pop Warner organization. The schedule usually comes out just before the first game is to be played and is often changed during the season. Trojans Pop Warner has no control over the schedule - we encourage our teams to be flexible.
Where do we practice?
Murchison Middle School.
It is my first year playing, am I already behind? What can I do to prepare myself?
It is never too late to start Pop Warner as long as you are within the age requirements. We recommend visiting our camp page on the web site for opportunities to build up your stamina, conditioning and strength and get best prepared for the fun, upcoming season!
Can I promote my company at games or hand out giveaways?
We offer many sponsorship opportunities. Please visit that area of our web site for information on becoming an official sponsor and for a listing of all the benefits that come with it.
What have you done to insure my kid’s safety?
We follow all the Pop Warner guidelines set forth. It is our top priority to teach safety and proper form to insure safety for our kids now and in the future. Additionally, we also have doctors serving on our board who help insure all safety concerns are addressed and who also know many area doctors with whom we can consult on safety matters.
Have all the volunteers in your organization had a background check?
When will our coach contact us?
No later than mid-July. Likely sooner!
Can I request my kid play for a certain coach or with a friend?
You can, however, kids are first and foremost placed on teams with safety in mind and in accordance to Pop Warner guidelines.
How are teams decided?
Based on age and weight (and according to safety guidelines) and in some cases, experience too.
What volunteer opportunities are there for me?
We will have plenty of opportunities for you to volunteer as we get closer to the season (April timeframe). Please check out our volunteer area of the web site in the meantime and send us your information if you are interested in volunteering.
